Sunday 8th September – Windsurf ***** The Manor at Felixstowe – sunny periods.

Foil – 17.73 knot max, 15.88 knot ave, 12.00 knot hour, 15.00 knot mile, 43.42 km., 12.42 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Severne 1000 with a Tushingham Bolt 5.5.

With a southerly breeze forecast of around 20 knots I was keen to get out, a few were going to the River Orwell at Levington but I like to sail on the sea as much as possible in the warmer months so had to chose between Thje Dip and The Manor, both venues might be a problem to reach as there was a major prom run and the finish of the Tour of Britain bike race which meant several road closures in Felixstowe! With low water just before nine I was keen to get out early so decided on The Manor end as its easier to launch and land, with Langer road open I made it to Squiz Lane at 8.30, parking easily, my new friend Piotr from Poland who is parking down there was pleased to see me and was keen to make a video, in fact I had two videos today as Dean Cattling caught me out on the water too:) It looked good with sunshine and a good breeze gusting well over 20 knots which was enough to tempt me to try my 115 fin board with 5.5! I quickly realized that it was not windy enough for the 5.5 on the fin, maybe the 6.5 would have been OK but it is tiring so wobbled back to shore to set up my foil board. I then had a top couple of hours, just me and the odd yacht, after one run out I had enough sail for a downwind run and had a lovely mellow 3 mile plus run down to The Dip! The sea was surprisingly big big going downwind the sea really smooths out but it made for an interesting beat back and I could get back to just past the pier in one tack, it was so good I did it a couple more times, really good fun sailing fairly close to the beach for several miles! On the last run down I headed out to sea a little further so I could get back to The Manor, one more long run out before heading in as I wanted to catch the finish of the bike race!

Walk ** Around Felixstowe to see cycle race finish – cloudy with rain:(

I had a shower, a snack and then walked down to the seafront to see the Tour of Britain finish area before carrying onto the Ferris wheel as I wanted to get some pics of the leaders riding past it. The weather had turned being cloudy with heavy rain as the race finished! I had to wait about 40 minutes for the cyclists to arrive but spotted Al Wiz out sailing at high water in very lumpy conditions, it didn’t look much fun to me! A few support cars and police motor bikes appear before the leaders whizz past at breakneck speed, watching cycle racing is a bit of a waste of time, you wait ages for them to come and they are gone in a few seconds! I then get soaked walking home through the slow moving crowds:(
